Cottage cheese is basically a cheese curd that is made when milk is processed in a milk or cream separator to remove fat particles from whole milk. When fat is removed from whole milk, skimmed milk is produced.  

After going through milk or milk separator, the skimmed milk is heated at a high temperature and cottage cheese is produced. When milk is converted into skimmed milk, all the nutrients of whole milk are transferred into skimmed milk. When skimmed milk is heated, all the nutrients of skimmed milk are transferred into cottage cheese. This shows that the nutrients present in cottage cheese is healthy for human body.

Cottage cheese has a number of advantages. Cottage cheese has 206 calories and 9 grams of fat. The nutrients present in cottage cheese include protein, vitamin B-12, calcium and phosphorus. All the essential amino acids that a human body needs are present in cottage cheese.

Furthermore, the only source of vitamin B-12 is dairy products and one cup of cottage cheese contains thirty eight percent of the recommended daily intakes of vitamin B-12. Homocysteine is a type of amino acid present in the blood stream that increases the risk of cardiovascular diseases.

Vitamin B-12 plays an important role in protecting human beings from such harmful diseases by converting homocysteine into a healthy substance. In addition, vitamin B-12 also helps some enzymes to produce more energy and create red blood cells.

As far as calcium is concerned, once cup of cottage cheese has 18 percent of the calcium that a human body needs every day. Calcium present in cottage cheese is needed for muscle contractions and normal nerve functioning. Lastly, cottage cheese is rich in phosphorus hence, phosphorous along with calcium makes bones strong.
